Panchkula police have announced the arrest of a 21-year-old woman, Simran, in connection with the alleged murder of Rajiv Gupta. The development follows the discovery of a decomposed body on August 22 in a roadside ditch near Sukhomajri village, along the Pinjore-Nalagarh bypass, which was later identified as Gupta.
Simran, a resident of Manimajra, Chandigarh, was apprehended on September 14 and subsequently presented in court before being remanded in police custody for three days for interrogation. This arrest follows previous detentions on August 27, when three other individuals—Kamaldeep alias Kundan (identified as the woman’s brother), Satyanarayan alias Satta, and Vinod alias Boda (both identified as the woman’s uncles)—were taken into custody. These three had also been remanded to police custody before being moved to judicial custody.
According to statements provided by Rajiv Gupta’s father to police, his son, who had married in April, was reportedly involved in another relationship. This situation had reportedly led to threats against Gupta from the other woman’s brother and uncle, a complaint that had been filed with Chandigarh Police prior to his disappearance. Gupta was last seen on August 9, leaving home on his Activa scooter, with his mobile phone subsequently switched off and its last traced location in Pinjore.
