The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held a protest in Mumbai demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP alleges that approximately 13 crore voters have been removed from electoral rolls since 2024, linking these deletions to the narrow vote-share gap in recent elections and suggesting they could impact results.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke stated that the protest in Mumbai is the start of a series of demonstrations planned across the country throughout October, which will eventually lead to a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Dipke criticized the Election Commission’s procedures and claimed that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections multiple times regarding decisions and procedures.
The Election Commission has rejected these claims, maintaining that all key decisions, including the revision of voter rolls, were made unanimously by the full commission. The CJP plans to expand its protests to cities including Goa, Bengaluru, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Patna, and Ranchi.
