Police in Keralam’s Thrissur have arrested five individuals, including a woman, in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of another woman and the severe beating of her boyfriend. The arrests were made following an incident on September 22.
According to police, a six-member gang, posing as officers, entered a lodge room where the couple was staying. They allegedly kidnapped both individuals and took them to Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu. There, the man was reportedly assaulted, sustaining multiple fractures to his hands and legs, and then abandoned outside a hospital. The woman was allegedly raped in a separate vehicle before being abandoned.
The Thrissur police stated that the man’s wife is believed to have orchestrated the plan. She allegedly tracked her husband’s phone to the lodge in Thrissur and was reportedly part of the group that carried out the abduction. While the assault and rape occurred in Tiruppur, the investigation will proceed in Keralam as the kidnapping originated there.
Five of the accused have been remanded to judicial custody. A sixth suspect, believed to be a juvenile, is still at large. The arrested individuals face charges including gang rape, kidnapping, and grievous assault.
