Pimpri-Chinchwad Industries Address Hazardous Waste Disposal Challenges

Industries in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Bhosari area are encountering significant challenges regarding the disposal of hazardous waste, a situation contributing to environmental concerns in the region. Sandeep Belsare, president of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Small Scale Industries Association, noted that while non-hazardous waste management has seen some resolution, the issue of hazardous waste disposal remains unresolved. He emphasized that only facilities approved by the pollution control board are currently permitted to dispose of hazardous waste at the Ranjangaon facility.

Belsare stated that industrialists are primarily demanding the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) establish a dedicated plant for hazardous waste disposal. However, the PCMC has reportedly declined this request, citing a lack of expertise and capacity for such operations. Regarding instances of indiscriminately dumped hazardous waste, Kulkarni indicated that PCMC takes action against offenders, while also suggesting that the pollution control board holds responsibility for enforcement.
