Turkish police raided the Istanbul headquarters of Halk TV, a pro-opposition television channel, on Wednesday morning, resulting in the suspension of its live broadcasts.

Employees of the station reported being unable to access the building. Turkish media indicated that financial crimes police conducted searches and took 11 individuals into custody as part of an investigation connected to the channel’s owner.

Prosecutors reportedly issued arrest warrants for 17 people in an investigation concerning Halk TV’s chairman, Cafer Mahiroğlu, on allegations including bribery, rigging tenders, and money laundering. Mahiroğlu stated that seven of his family members were among those detained.

Halk TV is frequently seen as aligned with the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and has often been critical of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s AK party. The station’s news channel and its YouTube live streams were both unavailable early Wednesday.
