Shiv Prakash Shukla officially assumed the office of Governor of Telangana on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted at the Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad, where he received the oath of office from Telangana High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh.

Mr. Shukla succeeds Jishnu Dev Varma, who has been transferred to serve as the Governor of Maharashtra following a recent reshuffle initiated by the Central Government. The event was attended by various state dignitaries, including Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, and Director General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy, alongside other ministers, MLAs, and MPs.

Mr. Shukla brings an extensive political background to his new position, having accumulated nearly four decades of experience. His career includes multiple terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Uttar Pradesh, service as a member of the Rajya Sabha, and a tenure as Minister of State for Finance during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
