Thousands of people were detained in Delhi as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called for further protests on Sunday, October 11, 2026. The demonstrations aim to pressure the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar to resign, citing alleged electoral irregularities.

Delhi Police sources indicated that approximately 2,500 protesters were detained on Saturday, October 10, 2026. This number is in addition to about 1,000 individuals taken into custody in preventive measures the night before the planned protest.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a petition on Sunday challenging the detentions of various individuals, including leaders, former Chief Ministers, students, journalists, and lawyers. The court will also address a contempt petition concerning the shutdown of public transport, which authorities allegedly implemented to prevent protesters from reaching the capital.

The Office of the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner (OHCHR) expressed concern over the mass detentions, though the government has rejected this statement. CJP members Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka were among those detained upon their arrival in Delhi, with the CJP alleging their whereabouts are unknown.
