Senior trade representatives from the United States and India are poised to resume bilateral trade discussions on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Brendan Lynch, the Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, is scheduled to arrive in India late on Monday to participate in talks with India’s chief negotiator, Rajesh Agrawal, who holds the position of Special Secretary in the Department of Commerce.

The upcoming negotiations aim to advance a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement. Previous discussions on this matter had reportedly stalled, primarily attributed to New Delhi’s hesitation to open its agricultural and dairy sectors. This resumption of dialogue follows recent remarks from US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick indicating Washington’s intent to resolve trade issues with India. Mr. Agrawal has confirmed that both nations plan to “fast-track” these critical trade talks.
