Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who passed away on Thursday in Goa following a cardiac arrest, was cremated late that night with full state honours at his Pune farmhouse. The last rites took place around 11:30 pm at the family’s property known as Nanachi Wadi.
His son, Malhar Patekar, explained that the cremation was held late due to a delay in transporting his father’s remains from Goa. The family had initially expected the arrival to be earlier but decided to proceed with the rites on Thursday itself, as a significant amount of time had already passed since the actor’s death in the early morning.
Malhar also spoke about his father’s enduring legacy, stating that Nana Patekar’s contributions to society would continue through the initiatives he championed, particularly in the water sector, education, and health. He mentioned that his father had assigned specific responsibilities to individuals before his passing.
The funeral was attended by over 1,000 admirers, including political leaders and members of the film industry. A 21-gun salute was performed, and his remains, draped in the Indian flag, were accompanied by a marching band.
