A central government team visited Mysuru district on Monday to evaluate the drought conditions. Officials presented information regarding rainfall deficits, water levels, and crop damage.
Mysuru district is experiencing a severe drought due to insufficient rainfall, with a reported deficit of 59%, one of the highest in the state, according to the Deputy Commissioner. The district relies on three main reservoirs: Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS), Kabini, and Harangi.
Water levels in these reservoirs have significantly decreased compared to last year. The live storage in KRS has dropped by nearly 4 tmc ft, and Kabini has seen a shortfall of around 7 tmc ft. Officials stated that the remaining water is being prioritized for drinking water supply and filling tanks.
The drought has also led to substantial crop losses, with approximately 1.43 lakh hectares affected. The estimated crop loss is valued at around ₹122.34 crore, as per State Disaster Response Force norms, officials reported.
