Gudiyatham Town police apprehended five individuals on Sunday in Perumbadi village for their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of painkiller tablets. The arrested persons were identified as B. Ayyappan, 27, R. Naveen Kumar, 20, S. Devan, 25, G. Mohan, 23, and K. Baskaran, 22, all residents of Gudiyatham.
Acting on directives from Superintendent of Police A. Myilvaganan, special police teams reportedly intercepted the group near an open plot, discovering 850 tapentadol tablets—a potent painkiller—along with 50 syringes. Investigations indicated the tablets were allegedly being sold to youth and students in the vicinity. Authorities seized the tablets, syringes, and a two-wheeler.
A case has been registered under Section 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The individuals are currently lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore, and a probe into the matter remains underway.
