Former British world boxing champion Ricky Hatton, aged 46, was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Sunday morning. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers were called to an address where they discovered a 46-year-old man’s body.
Known throughout his career as “the Hitman,” Hatton was a prominent figure in British boxing, having secured multiple world titles. He had reportedly been planning an exhibition fight in Dubai for December.
Following the news, tributes were shared widely across the boxing community and beyond. The Ring magazine expressed profound sadness, while boxing outlet IFLTV described Hatton as “a legend of a man inside and outside the ring.” Former British world champion Amir Khan eulogized Hatton as “one of Britain’s greatest boxers,” a friend, mentor, and warrior, also emphasizing the importance of addressing mental health, stating, “Sometimes the hardest fight happens in silence, in the mind.”
