A 65-year-old individual, S. Palanirajan, has been arrested near Ambur, Tirupattur district, following a surprise inspection by health officials. He is accused of providing medical treatment and prescriptions without the necessary professional qualifications from a clinic and pharmacy established in his rented house in Sandakuppam village.
According to health officials, Mr. Palanirajan, who holds a diploma in pharmacy, had been offering medical services to an estimated 35-50 patients daily for several years. A special medical team, led by V. Gnana Meenakshi, Joint Director of Health Services, conducted the check, subsequently sealing the facility and seizing medical equipment, including a blood pressure apparatus, stethoscope, and syringes. Ambur Taluk police have registered a case, and the individual has been lodged in sub-jail in Tirupattur, with a probe currently underway.
