Karnataka CM Calls for Enhanced Agricultural Research and Farmer Engagement

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently highlighted national concerns regarding diminishing soil fertility, urging farm universities to undertake extensive research and calling on agricultural department officials and scientists to prioritize this issue. Addressing the Krishi Mela, which he characterized as a farmers’ fair, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of providing farmers with opportunities to explore and experiment with indigenous methodologies.

He noted the State government’s increased investment in the agricultural sector, covering assistance, technology upgrades, and other farm-related works. Siddaramaiah stressed the necessity of multi-crop cultivation over mono-crop farming, identifying millets as a solution and encouraging widespread cultivation by farmers, supported by state promotion. He advocated for a “lab to land” approach, following “land to lab,” to facilitate regular interaction between farmers and agricultural scientists, aiming to foster progressive farming. The Chief Minister also announced the immediate release of crop loss compensation.
