Keralam Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan stated that the state government acted without undue haste or political motivation in the CMRL-Exalogic pay-off case. This action followed the Enforcement Directorate’s sharing of information under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Speaking after a State Cabinet meeting, Satheesan explained that the government sought legal opinions and conducted a preliminary inquiry before registering the FIR. He noted that the Kerala High Court had directed the registration of the FIR against Pinarayi Vijayan, T. Veena, and P.A. Mohamed Riyas, and that the court found a cognisable offence had been committed.

The Chief Minister also addressed a preliminary inquiry ordered by the state government against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding a 20-year-old corruption allegation. Satheesan clarified that this inquiry was initiated based on a complaint naming Mr. Kumar, who previously served as the State’s PWD Secretary.

Satheesan emphasized that investigations are not punishments and that the culprits will be identified only after the investigation is complete.
