Northern Ireland’s First Minister, Michelle O’Neill, has confirmed she has received a letter from the police inviting her for an interview. The investigation relates to protests concerning the Drumcree parading dispute.
Police stated they have begun issuing letters to individuals suspected of committing offences linked to the protests. These protests occurred against an Orange Order march planned down the Garvaghy Road. The march did not take place due to a significant protest on the road.
O’Neill has previously defended her participation, stating she was proud to stand with residents and would oppose laws she deemed wrong. She confirmed her intention to cooperate with the police investigation and reiterated her solidarity with the Garvaghy Road residents, advocating for their right to live without sectarian intimidation.
Other Sinn Féin politicians, including party President Mary Lou McDonald and MLA Deirdre Hargey, have also indicated they have received similar letters and intend to cooperate, with Hargey seeking legal advice.
