Police Apprehend Five for Illegal Painkiller Distribution Near Gudiyatham

Police in Perumbadi village, near Gudiyatham, arrested five individuals on Sunday in connection with the alleged illegal sale of painkiller tablets. The apprehended persons were identified as B. Ayyappan (27), R. Naveen Kumar (20), S. Devan (25), G. Mohan (23), and K. Baskaran (22), all residents of Gudiyatham.

Special police teams, acting under the direction of Superintendent of Police A. Myilvaganan, intercepted the group near an open plot. Authorities reported seizing 850 tapentadol tablets, described as a potent painkiller prescribed for post-surgical pain but known for its potential for abuse. Additionally, 50 syringes and a two-wheeler were confiscated. Investigations reportedly indicated that the tablets were being distributed to youth and students in the locality.

A case has been registered against the individuals under Section 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The five accused have been lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore, and a probe into the matter is currently underway.
