The final stage of the Vuelta a Espana cycling race in Madrid was abandoned following pro-Palestinian protests. Demonstrators entered the course, removing barriers and occupying various road sections, including Gran Via, where cyclists were scheduled to pass multiple times. More than 1,000 police officers had been deployed in the Spanish capital as demonstrations were anticipated.

Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard, who was leading the race, has been declared the official winner. The current event has been marked by ongoing protests against the Israel-Premier Tech team, leading to previous stage shortenings and reported safety concerns from riders. In response, Israel-Premier Tech began competing in modified jerseys last week that did not display their team name. Organizers confirmed the race’s conclusion and Vingegaard’s victory, while noting uncertainty about a winning ceremony due to the significant protest presence in downtown Madrid.
