Agricultural Minister Reviews Rain Impact in Mandya; Compensation Efforts Initiated

Mandya district experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall from October 9 to October 10, 2025, leading to widespread inundation of low-lying areas and the breach of an irrigation canal that subsequently damaged agricultural fields. N. Cheluvarayaswamy, the Minister for Agriculture, conducted inspections of the affected sites, including the waterlogged KHB Colony within Mandya town. The Minister noted that recent heavy rains across the state had caused crop damage exceeding 13 lakh hectares, with an estimated 80 hectares affected specifically in Mandya district. Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy announced that a detailed joint survey would be undertaken once the rains subside to accurately assess the extent of damage, which will facilitate the preparation of proposals for farmer compensation. Additionally, water flow through the CDS canal has been temporarily halted, with repair works scheduled to commence after the rainfall ceases.
