An American father, Daniel Owen (47), and his 15-year-old son, Cooper Owen, died on October 15 after being stung by swarms of venomous wasps. The incident occurred during a zip-lining tour at an adventure park in the tropical forests near Luang Prabang, Laos. The individuals, visiting from Haiphong, Vietnam, where Mr. Owen served as director of an international school, were initially transported to a local clinic. Citing limited medical facilities and the serious condition of both patients, staff at the clinic subsequently transferred them to a provincial hospital for further treatment.
