Defense Secretary Hegseth has reportedly implemented a series of personnel changes affecting senior military leadership, including the delay or cancellation of promotions for at least four senior officers.

These officers were, in some instances, reportedly linked to former Joint Chiefs chair Gen. Milley. For example, Lt. Gen. Work's nomination for a third star remains unresolved despite strong backing from top Army leaders. Reports also indicate that Hegseth has removed several high-profile military leaders from their posts, such as Gen. Chiarelli, former Army vice chief of staff, and Generals Slocum and McGee from director roles on the Joint Staff.

These decisions have, according to senior military officials, often proceeded with limited input from other high-ranking military figures. The reasons behind many of these personnel actions have been described as largely unexplained, leading to uncertainty and speculation among senior military leaders and even some Trump administration officials.
