Eastern Seaboard Faces Coastal Flood Threat from Developing Storm

A significant coastal storm is developing off Florida’s eastern coast, leading the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a Coastal Flood Advisory and various warnings across the southeastern and eastern United States. Forecasts indicate the potential for widespread minor tidal flooding, gusty winds up to 60 miles per hour, strong rip currents, rising seas, and hazardous surf conditions.

Specific advisories include predictions of up to one foot of flooding above ground in lower-lying areas of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Furthermore, a Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for Cumberland, Atlantic, and Cape May counties, where up to three feet of waterlogging is estimated. Peak tide events are anticipated around noon on Saturday and midnight on Sunday, which could amplify coastal flooding. The NWS urges residents in areas prone to flooding to move to higher ground immediately if water levels begin to rise. These advisories and warnings are projected to remain active through Monday evening as the coastal storm progresses northward.
