The Ministry of Education has communicated with States and Union Territories, encouraging the adoption of Unified Payments Interface (UPI), mobile payments, and net banking for financial transactions in schools. A government statement issued on October 11, 2025, by the Department of School Education and Literacy, indicated this initiative is part of efforts to promote “Ease of Living and Schooling.” The communication specifically urges States, UTs, and autonomous bodies like NCERT, CBSE, KVS, and NVS to implement secure digital methods for collecting fees, including admission and examination charges.
The Ministry highlighted “multiple advantages” of transitioning from cash to digital transactions, citing enhanced convenience and transparency. This shift is also described as a significant step towards aligning educational administration with the government’s wider objective of Digital Transformation. Additionally, the initiative aims to foster greater financial literacy among all stakeholders, enabling broader engagement with digital transaction systems.
