England secured an 89-run victory against Sri Lanka in a Women’s World Cup fixture in Colombo, marking their third consecutive win and positioning them at the top of the eight-team table, one point ahead of defending champions Australia. England, after being put in to bat, posted a total of 253 for 9 wickets. Nat Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings with a score of 117 runs from 117 deliveries, having been dropped earlier in her innings. Supporting contributions included Tammy Beaumont’s 32 runs, and partnerships of 60 runs between Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, and 38 runs with Charlie Dean.

In Sri Lanka’s chase, captain Chamari Athapaththu retired hurt early. While Hasini Perera and Harshitha Samarawickrama established a partnership that reached 98 for 2 wickets, England’s bowling attack ultimately limited their progress. Sophie Ecclestone was a key performer with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 17 runs. England is scheduled to play Pakistan in their next match on Wednesday, also in Colombo.
