An investigation in East Godavari district has concluded that milk samples were adulterated with ethylene glycol, as reported by district authorities. The forensic probe involved testing both blood samples from individuals and milk samples from the dairy. A local vendor is reported to have supplied the affected milk to 110 families in Rajamahendravaram city on February 15 and 16. The inquiry commenced after the death of a 76-year-old consumer on February 22 due to acute renal failure, with 20 other consumers also reporting acute renal failure linked to the consumption of the milk. Officials stated that ethylene glycol initially leaked from a freezer and subsequently mixed with the milk through a container leak. The vendor reportedly repaired the freezer and container on February 16 following customer complaints regarding the milk’s color and odor. The presence of ethylene glycol has been corroborated by five separate reports from various agencies, including the Regional Forensic Laboratory, Vijayawada.
