Former President Donald Trump has proposed a method for resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, focusing on the country's Donbas region. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump suggested that the most effective way to end hostilities would be to divide the Donbas, leaving its current de facto status largely unchanged, which would entail much of the territory remaining under Russian control. He indicated that further negotiations could occur at a later stage.
According to reports from two individuals briefed on a White House discussion, Trump reportedly encouraged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to relinquish substantial territory to Russia during a recent meeting. Following this, Trump communicated via social media that his discussions with Zelenskyy were "very interesting, and cordial," and that he had urged both Zelenskyy and President Putin to "stop the killing, and make a DEAL." An interview in which Trump made remarks about "winning property" was aired on Sunday but conducted prior to his recent engagements with President Putin and President Zelenskyy.
