Ashley J. Tellis, a foreign policy expert of Indian origin, has been arrested and charged by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) with the illegal storage of sensitive government records. Tellis served on the National Security Council staff as a special assistant to President George W. Bush and as senior director for strategic planning and Southwest Asia. He was also involved in negotiating the India-US civil nuclear agreement. In 2001, he authored the book India’s Emerging Nuclear Posture, which is noted for its influence on US foreign policy. Prior to his government roles, Tellis worked as a senior policy analyst at the RAND Corporation and as a professor at the RAND Graduate School. He was born in Mumbai in 1961.
