Anand Umesh Hegde, a 40-year-old civil contractor and hotelier from Hubballi, was found deceased in his room at Dakshayini Lodge in Huvinahadagali town, Vijayanagara district, on Monday morning. Hegde had reportedly arrived in Huvinahadagali on Sunday to supervise a taluk sports complex development project, a contract his partnership firm had secured. The discovery was made after his family, unable to contact him by phone, prompted lodge staff to investigate. Following unanswered knocks, staff alerted police, who then gained entry to the room. Officers found Hegde deceased, suspended from a window grille. Authorities have registered a case at the Huvinahadagali Police Station based on a complaint filed by Hegde’s cousin, and an investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact reason for the death, according to a senior police official. Hegde is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
