India Seeks Enhanced Global Climate Action, Joins Brazil's Tropical Forest Fund as Observer

On Friday, November 7, 2025, India announced its observer status in Brazil's newly established global fund for tropical forests. Concurrently, the nation conveyed its perspective that global climate ambition remains insufficient, a decade following the adoption of the Paris Agreement. India urged developed nations to intensify efforts in emission reduction and to deliver the previously pledged climate finance. The country underscored that equitable, predictable, and concessional climate finance is fundamental for achieving international climate objectives, emphasizing the need for developing countries to access affordable finance, technology, and capacity building to implement their ambitious nationally determined contributions (NDCs). India also highlighted its sustained commitment to a low-carbon development pathway, noting the ahead-of-schedule achievement of several of its domestic climate targets. Officials suggested that India might submit updated NDCs either prior to or during COP30, scheduled from November 10 to 21.
