Indian Railways Expands Train Services for Festival Season Demand

Indian Railways has announced a significant expansion of its train operations to accommodate increased passenger demand during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals. The initiative involves the deployment of 763 special trains, which will collectively provide over 12,000 services, including 150 designated as unreserved. These additional services are scheduled to run on both daily and weekly bases across various zones.

Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that this increase in operational capacity was made possible by the expansion of railway lines on high-density routes. Official data from the Ministry of Railways indicates that the Northern Railway is set to conduct the highest number of trips, totaling 1,925 across 52 trains, followed by the East Central Railway with 1,324 journeys via 74 trains, and the Central Railway with 1,299 trips utilizing 68 trains. Other notable contributions to the special services include the South Central Railway, North Western Railway, and Western Railway. Some of these special train services have already commenced operations.
