Government sources have confirmed that the Iranian vessel IRIS Lavan docked in Kochi, India, on March 4 due to technical issues. The ship's crew of 183 sailors is currently being accommodated at naval facilities in Kochi. This docking followed an earlier request from Iran for the ship, which had been present in India's territorial waters for the International Fleet Review in Vishakhapatnam, to be taken in.

The arrival of the IRIS Lavan coincided with the reported sinking of another Iranian warship, the IRIS Dena, in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sri Lanka. This incident, which occurred on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, involved an attack by a U.S. submarine and resulted in the deaths of at least 83 people.
