Ivan Klima, a renowned Czech novelist recognized for his extensive writings on life under totalitarian regimes, has died in Prague at the age of 94. His son, Michal, confirmed the passing.

Klima’s experiences significantly shaped his work, beginning with his internment as a boy at the Terezin concentration camp. His literary output largely focused on the communist era in Czechoslovakia, including the aftermath of the 1968 Prague Spring reforms and their subsequent suppression by Warsaw Pact forces.

Despite the political climate, Klima returned to Czechoslovakia in 1970 after a sabbatical. He became a central figure in the dissident literary movement, organizing clandestine literary salons that gathered other prominent intellectuals, including future president Vaclav Havel.
