The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a suo motu case concerning the death of 32-year-old actor-model Twisha Sharma, who died at her marital residence in Madhya Pradesh. The court initiated proceedings based on media reports and existing circumstances, addressing alleged procedural irregularities and potential lapses in the investigation. Twisha Sharma’s family has accused her husband, Samarth, and his mother, Giribala Singh—a retired district judge—of dowry harassment, mental and physical torture, and murder. Conversely, the accused family maintains that Twisha Sharma died by suicide, denying the allegations. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently conducting the ongoing investigation, and the court has ordered the seizure of Samarth’s passport for questioning regarding the death, related communications, and family allegations. Public controversy has also arisen from statements made by Giribala Singh in media interviews; Twisha Sharma’s family alleges she questioned Twisha’s character, while Giribala Singh has publicly claimed Twisha Sharma received psychiatric treatment and used substances, assertions that the victim’s family strongly contests. Investigators are also examining Twisha Sharma’s movements and mental state prior to her death.
