A 60-year-old man, Balakrishnan, sustained severe burn injuries following an explosion at his residence in Kattaikonam on Sunday around 11 a.m. The incident is believed to have occurred when an explosive substance, identified as a fireworks mixture used in temple rituals, ignited while being dried in his house. Investigators suspect sparks from a nearby metal cutter may have caused the ignition. Balakrishnan, a temple employee, was alone in the house at the time and has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital. No other injuries or significant property damage were reported. Authorities have launched an investigation into the explosion.
