Kent County Council: Reform UK Suspends Member, Addresses Fiscal Questions

Reform UK has suspended Isabella Kemp, a member of Kent County Council, during the council's first full meeting since internal tensions became public following a leaked meeting. This follows the suspension of four other Reform councillors earlier. Ms. Kemp has indicated her intention to initiate tribunal proceedings for unfair dismissal against Reform UK.

During the meeting, Reform UK councillors also faced repeated inquiries from opposition members regarding their stance on potential council tax increases. The party had previously campaigned on promises of savings to voters. While a senior Reform team member had previously suggested a possible 5% rate rise, Brian Collins, a Reform cabinet member, stated that no decision has been made, pending the outcome of a government funding review. Another cabinet member had previously expressed a belief that Kent would raise council tax by the maximum 5% to meet budgetary obligations.
