A legislator from Kongad, K. Santhakumari, recently reported an attempted online fraud where perpetrators allegedly tried to convince her she was under a "digital arrest". The scammers reportedly engaged the CPI(M) MLA for several hours, using tactics of intimidation and presenting confusing details, claiming her alleged links to a terror case necessitated this fictitious arrest.

Santhakumari stated she experienced significant stress and concern over the allegations before realizing it was a cyber scam, subsequently contacting the police. Authorities have since confirmed that there is no legal concept of "digital arrest" and have urged the public to be vigilant against such claims. An investigation, involving cyber experts, has been initiated to identify those responsible for the attempted deception. The MLA also voiced concern about the potential impact of such scams on ordinary citizens.
