Local Self-Governments Minister M.B. Rajesh has expressed concerns regarding the practical aspects of rehabilitating stray dogs in Kerala, following recent observations by the Supreme Court. Speaking to reporters, Minister Rajesh indicated his understanding of the court's stance, primarily from media reports, suggesting an emphasis on the effective implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, including sterilisation and vaccination.

Rajesh noted that Kerala's affidavit, detailing existing measures and implementation challenges, had been accepted by the Supreme Court. He further stated that removing stray dogs from public spaces was an impractical approach for the state, citing difficulties in acquiring land for shelters and recalling past local protests against such facilities. The Minister called for more practical guidelines tailored to Kerala's specific situation, while also clarifying that, based on available media information, the court had reiterated existing directives rather than issuing new ones.
