A statewide hartal has been called for April 28 (Tuesday) in Kerala by the Nithin Raj Action Council, supported by several Dalit organizations, the Socialist Unity Centre of India, and the Welfare Party of India.

The protest is in response to the death of BDS student Nithin Raj. Organizers and trade bodies have clarified that shops will remain open and private buses will operate as usual during the hartal. Conveners further stated that vehicles would not be forcibly stopped, though they appealed to the public to cooperate by avoiding the use of private vehicles. This clarification was provided amid concerns regarding potential disruptions to transport and trade across the state.
