A two-and-a-half-month special drive, spearheaded by the Local Self-Governments department (LSGD) and Clean Kerala Company Limited (CKCL) with assistance from Haritha Karma Sena volunteers, concluded on September 30. The initiative resulted in the collection of 97,678.71 kg of e-waste and hazardous e-waste from 93 urban local bodies across Kerala. The total comprised 92,743.51 kg of e-waste and 4,935.2 kg of hazardous e-waste.

Owners received a nominal amount for the collected materials. E-waste with recycling value was subsequently transferred to Central Pollution Control Board-approved recyclers, while hazardous e-waste was sent to Kerala Enviro Infrastructure Limited (KEIL) for scientific processing.

Among the participating districts, Ernakulam registered the highest e-waste collection at 21,527.11 kg. Kannur led in hazardous e-waste collection, contributing 3,660.9 kg. Following the completion of this urban campaign, an expanded e-waste collection initiative commenced in grama panchayats across the State on October 2.
