Tens of thousands of individuals participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration held in central London on the day following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Demonstrators were observed carrying Palestinian flags over Westminster Bridge and displaying placards with slogans such as “stop arming Israel” and “free Palestine.”
Concurrently, a smaller group of counter-protesters, identified with the group Stop the Hate, gathered nearby, displaying Israeli flags and signs advocating for the return of hostages. An altercation occurred when counter-protesters reportedly breached Public Order Act conditions at the main protest’s assembly point. Officers swiftly intervened to separate those involved.
Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, an organizer of the event, affirmed the organization’s unwavering support for Palestinians. He expressed apprehension regarding the ceasefire’s stability and suggested it did not address the fundamental causes of the conflict.
