Six police officers are scheduled to undergo a misconduct process following an investigation into their actions related to a missing persons report that preceded the delayed discovery of a fatal car crash. Five individuals—Sophie Russon, Eve Smith, Darcy Ross, Rafel Jeanne, and Shane Loughlin—were reported missing by their families on the evening of March 4, 2023, after being last seen earlier that day. The vehicle, found on March 6, was involved in a collision that resulted in the deaths of three people. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) examined Gwent Police's response, specifically addressing whether missing person reports were appropriately risk-assessed, reviewed, and resourced. Concerns regarding the police's handling of the initial reports had previously been expressed by the victims' families.
