The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from Mumbai. This announcement signifies the city’s earliest monsoon withdrawal in seven years and the second earliest recorded since 2006. Despite the withdrawal being declared later than the usual retreat date, the timing is notably earlier compared to recent seasons, which have typically experienced delayed departures. For instance, previous withdrawals occurred on October 6, 2018, and October 9, 2006. In contrast, recent years saw withdrawals extending to October 15 last year, and October 23 in both 2023 and 2022. This monsoon season in Mumbai was also characterized by its earliest onset since 1950, with the IMD announcing its arrival on May 26.
