Munich authorities initiated the temporary closure of the Oktoberfest grounds on Wednesday, citing a bomb threat. This security measure was implemented in connection with an ongoing investigation into an earlier incident in a residential area located in the city’s north.
Emergency medical personnel had responded to reports of explosions and a burning building. During the response, one severely wounded man was discovered near the property and later succumbed to his injuries. Police also reported the discovery of “explosive traps” within the residence. The identity of the deceased man and any direct connection to the explosion were not publicly disclosed by authorities.
Initially, officials had suggested the fire might be linked to a domestic conflict, leading to searches at several associated locations, including the Theresienwiese, the site for Oktoberfest. However, a police spokesman later clarified that the discovery of “a nonspecific bomb threat” at the residential property was the direct prompt for these extensive searches.
