Nepal has reported significant fatalities following continuous heavy rainfall, landslides, and floods across several districts. Over 40 lives have been claimed, with 37 deaths attributed to landslides in Ilam district alone. Additional casualties include three individuals struck by lightning in Rautahat district, and one death each in Panchthar, Khotang, and Udayapur districts due to landslides or floods. Furthermore, seven people sustained injuries from lightning incidents, and four remain missing from Rasuwa district after being swept away by floods. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) provided these figures amidst an active monsoon season.
In response to the devastation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and pledged India’s commitment as a “friendly neighbour and first responder” to provide any necessary assistance to the people and Government of Nepal during this difficult time.
