The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is implementing an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) across its network, a strategic initiative designed to enhance both wildlife safety and train operational efficiency.

This system is primarily being deployed in areas where railway lines traverse forested regions and known elephant habitats. The NFR has successfully completed trial operations and commissioned the IDS in four key sections: Madarihat–Nagrakata, Habaipur–Lamsakhang–Patharkhola–Lumding, Kamakhya–Azara–Mirza, and Titabar–Mariani–Nakachari, spanning the Alipurduar, Lumding, Rangiya, and Tinsukia Divisions respectively.

Following these initial deployments, the NFR plans to proceed with the next phase of implementation, extending the IDS coverage to an additional 146.4 route kilometers within designated elephant corridors across its zone.
