An Other Backward Class (OBC) march took place in Nagpur on Friday, protesting the Maharashtra government’s September 2 Government Resolution (GR) related to caste certificates.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar expressed criticism of the decision, stating it would be “unfair to the entire OBC community” and could result in significant harm. He warned of potential consequences if the government disregards the concerns.
NCP-SCP leader Anil Deshmukh, who also participated in the march, suggested that despite assurances from Devendra Fadnavis that the OBC community would not be negatively impacted, the resolution is expected to cause considerable setbacks for OBCs in education, politics, and employment. Deshmukh indicated that the resolution could grant “more new people access to OBC reservations.” Attendees demanded the cancellation of the resolution, with Deshmukh stating that further action would be pursued if it remains in effect.
