The sex ratio at birth (SRB) in Haryana’s Panchkula district has shown an improvement, increasing from 914 girls per 1000 boys during January-September 2024 to 951 in the corresponding period of 2025. This information was reported by Dr. Mukta Kumar, Civil Surgeon, Panchkula.
District administration officials attribute this improvement to continuous enforcement measures, community awareness campaigns, and coordinated efforts. Specific actions cited include stringent controls and regulation of ultrasound and Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) centers, aimed at preventing illegal practices.
Between January and September 2025, 137 inspections were conducted at PNDT centers and 46 at MTP centers. These inspections resulted in the issuance of 11 show-cause notices, the cancellation of 20 MTP center registrations, and seven successful raids conducted under relevant acts. Additionally, the number of MTP cases beyond 12 weeks reportedly decreased from 355 in 2024 to 63 by September 2025, following the strengthening of inspection and monitoring mechanisms.
