The Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday that elections for the state’s Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis, originally slated for October 5, have been deferred. These local body polls are now scheduled to be held by December 5, 2025. According to the state's counsel, the postponement was requested and granted by the court due to significant disruption caused by recent floods.
It was also clarified that this deferment applies solely to Punjab, while Haryana is proceeding with its local body elections as initially scheduled.
