A fire incident, attributed to an LPG cylinder blast, occurred in Thachna village, Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. The blaze, which commenced late Thursday (January 1, 2026) and was reported by officials on Friday (January 2, 2026), resulted in four to five residential properties being gutted and two individuals sustaining injuries. The damaged homes included those belonging to Liaqat Mir, Bashir Ahmed, Alfa Mir, and Jibran Mir. A collaborative effort by the district administration, police, army, fire services, and local residents successfully brought the fire under control after several hours. This operation involved deploying fire tenders and removing LPG cylinders from adjacent houses to prevent further spread. Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Pankaj Sharma, oversaw the response. In the aftermath, political leaders, including Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, National Conference MP Sajad Kitchloo, and Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hamid Karra, publicly expressed concern for the affected families and urged the provision of immediate relief, temporary shelter, and rehabilitation, citing the challenging winter conditions.
