Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has reportedly come under scrutiny after being observed using an e-cigarette during an IPL match. This incident has highlighted India's Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), a comprehensive law enacted in 2019.

The PECA strictly bans the production, manufacture, import, export, transport, sale, distribution, storage, and advertisement of e-cigarettes across the country. First-time offenders found in violation of the Act can face imprisonment for up to one year. In 2023, the Union Health Ministry further clarified that personal possession of e-cigarettes also constitutes a violation of PECA, which was implemented citing serious public health concerns.

The specific enforcement of PECA in relation to Mr. Parag remains to be determined, though the incident has generated considerable public discussion.
